Job Summary

This Assistant Dean for Faculty Wellness will position UT Southwestern as a model environment for achieving healthier lifestyles and successfully addressing issues such as burnout, work/life harmony and personal resilience. Reporting to the Vice Provost and Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Initiatives, this individual serves as the Chief Faculty Wellness Officer and will address issues at theinstitutional, departmental, clinic, and individual levels that contribute to faculty burnout. This is a part-time position to be performed in conjunction with a clinical department appointment. The Chief Faculty Wellness Officer is expected to be an active clinician with a demonstrated understanding of how to successfully manage change within a university environment.
Experience and Education

  • M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. in a clinical area of study.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in clinical practice.
  • Must qualify for a faculty appointment at UT Southwestern.
  • Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic credentials and experience.
Job Duties

The Assistant Dean for Faculty Wellness would be responsible for:
  • Refining and executing a recently-completed institutional strategic initiative to promote wellness and engagement among faculty, including the creation of a Faculty Wellness Office.
  • Identifying and mitigating new and persistent drivers of faculty burnout at institutional, departmental, clinic, and individual levels.
  • Assisting departments in addressing wellness issues encountered by their faculty that may be department or clinic specific.
  • Improving physician experience in clinical settings, including ongoing optimization of health care teams, the electronic health record, and clinical work flow.
  • Ensuring regular measurement and reporting of the status of faculty engagement, retention, and burnout.
  • Utilizing evidence-based and “best practice” approaches for improving faculty wellness as well as contributing new evidence in areas where it is lacking.
  • Collaborating with Human Resources as well as the existing directors of student, resident, and staff wellness to maximize synergies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in general office environment.
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimums require approval of Vice President for Human Services Administration or his/her designee.
