Experience and Education

Graduation from school or GED equivalent and no experience required.

Job Duties

Accomplishes initial intake interviews with patients or their families; explains clinic or hospital procedures; answers patients' questions concerning clinic or hospital routines; set up schedules for clinic visits as necessary.
Identifies immediate social, financial, educational, or other family problems, referring those requiring professional attention to other members of social work staff; assists in making patient referrals, following up to determine whether patients' needs have been resolved.
Provides initial counseling to patients with respect to certain selected routine problem areas, such as budget management, school absence, parent-child problems, health maintenance, and use of other educational or welfare resources.
Follows-up patients through home visits, correspondence, or telephone concerning missed clinic appointments, particularly where there is high medical risk involved; assists patients in rescheduling and keeping new appointments.
Completes patient forms and records; prepares chronological notes on each assigned patient; completes daily and weekly activity and travel reports.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Seeking an energetic, compassionate, and detail-oriented person to join our research team conducting a NIDA sponsored study. The candidate will perform the peer-led intervention that is designed to link recently incarcerated individuals to HIV and substance use treatment. The job candidate must have a history of incarceration. This is a part-time position and a typical shift will be during normal business hours. Intervention activities take place primarily on the UTSW and Parkland Hospital campus, but also requires work in the field to complete visits with participants. Reliable transportation is required to fulfill the job duties. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently but also as an integral team member; connect with and provide excellent customer service to study participants; have experience working with the study's population; have experience in healthcare settings; and be willing to learn and take constructive feedback from colleagues and supervisors
