Language Dispatcher

Responsible for receiving requests, via telephone, email and/or through department pagers, for interpretation assistance, entering the requests into the Language Services dispatching tool and dispatching interpreters to the requests based on the urgency and location of the call. The dispatcher is responsible for maintaining complete and accurate data for each record entered though researching hospital systems (EPIC) or from the interpreter scheduling reports. The dispatcher is also responsible for assisting with other minor duties as assigned such as assisting with Appointment Requests, and miscellaneous clerical requests from management. The dispatcher is responsible for supporting efficient department operations, facilitating a good flow of services and providing interpretation services in a timely manner by handling all of the incoming calls.

Experience and Education


High School diploma o equivalent required. 2 years associate college degree preferred.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

1-2 years of job related experience in a healthcare setting.

Job Duties

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities


  • Must possess proficient computer skills must have very good computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Excel and ten - key is a plus
  • Must possess fluency in reading, writing and speaking English; and the demonstrated use of good written and verbal communication skills
  • Must possess the ability to communicate with others in a clear, understandable and professional manner on the phone and in person; must exhibit and consistently use excellent customer service skills
  • Must possess the ability to interact with peers, executives, patient families and other vendors in a manner that represents UTSW in a positive manner
  • Must be able to demonstrate patient centered behaviors with a focus on dispatch quickly to calls for services
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to serve patients, families, clinicians and physicians
  • Must possess the ability to maintain regular, reliable and punctual attendance
  • Must possess the ability to learn and apply new information, knowledge and experiences in a timely manner
  • Must possess the ability to be flexible and adaptable to change
  • Must possess the ability to work on multiple tasks and projects

Working Conditions


Work is performed primarily at an office in a healthcare setting. Good general health and stress coping ability. Full mobility and ability to participate in vigorous activity as needed. Ability to speak and hear, to allow communication with patients, families, peers and external customers. Possess vision acuity for accurate utilization of equipment and accurate recording of sensitive and confidential information and records. Must be physically able to lift, support and move objects and light equipment. If history of back injury or problem is detected on employee physical, a physician release must be obtained in order to be eligible for employment.

Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimum require prior approval of Vice President for Human Resources Administration or his/her designee.
